In 2022 Red design were commissioned to re-design the historical Shanghai landmark restaurant and ballroom venue Lao Fan Dian.

Originally created in the Qing Dynasty over 100 years ago, the venue required a full makeover. The design drew inspiration from its historical Yu Garden location and tells the story of the brand from its Qing Dynasty origins through the eras of Shanghai’s modern age.

Design details and aesthetics were inspired by Shanghainese style and heritage combined with the story of Yu Garden and there many hidden narratives engineered with modern craft and materials.
